Timothy John "Tim" Dakin (born 1958) is the General Secretary of the Church Missionary Society (CMS), and of the South American Missionary Society (SAMS), and bishop-elect of Winchester.
Timothy Dakin was born in East Africa, where his parents were church missionaries working in Tanzania and Kenya. He attended kindergarten in Nairobi, Kenya, but was otherwise educated in England, returning to East Africa in adult life to work. He is married to Sally, and has two children, Anna and Johnny.[1]
Dakin trained for ordination at King's College, London and was ordained deacon in 1993, and priest in 1994.[2] His first appointment was as Principal of the Church Army training college in Nairobi, during which time he was also Assistant Curate at All Saints' Cathedral, Nairobi. He took up his appointment as General Secretary of CMS in 2000. His appointment as Bishop of Winchester was announced on 6 September 2011,[1] and he will take up the role in Spring 2012.[3]
